Métodos para detecção de patógenos periodontais

O desenvolvimento de exames laboratoriais capazes de detectar os microrganismos no sulco gengival ocorreu em decorrência do conceito de especificidade da placa bacteriana, da necessidade de identificação de indivíduos de risco, assim como de um diagnóstico mais preciso da doença periodontal. O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar através de revista de literatura, os principais ensaios microbiológicos empregados em periodontia para análise dos componentes da microbiota subgengival. Técnicas de cultura bacteriana, ensaios imunológicos e enzimáticos, provas de DNA, microscopia de campo escuro e contraste de fase bem como a utilização de marcadores bioquímicos têm sido utilizadas com esta finalidade. As pesquisas encontradas indicam a necessidade de análise criteriosa para seleção adequada do teste a ser empregado e que a presença de patógenos subgengivais está relacionada a fator de risco para a instalação ou progressão da doença periodontal.
